ROAD TRIP ENDS WITH A RECORD OF 1-2

CHICOUTIMI, QC – The Sea Dogs played their final game of a three game Quebec swing Saturday night, dropping a 6-2 decision to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Jakub Izacky had his second in as many nights and Ryan Tesink scored for Saint John as Alex Fournier made 24 saves on 30 shots in the loss, dropping the Sea Dogs to 6-7.

Petr Straka scored two and Valentin Zykov, Samuel Noreau, Gabriel Pauin-Boudreau, Carl Gelinas also replied for the Drakkar in the win. Phillippe Cadorette made 19 stops out of 21 as Baie-Comeau climbed to 7-4-0-1 on the year.

Izacky opened the scoring with his second goal in as many nights at 7:50 in the first period. As Marcus Cuomo drove to the Drakkar net, he backhanded a shot that rebounded onto Izacky’s stick for a tap in goal. Kevin Gagne added the other assist, starting the play out of the Sea Dogs zone.

The lead lasted just under three minutes as the Drakkar tied things up at 10:41 on Zykov’s marker.

Another three minutes later saw Baie-Comeau pull ahead 2-1 with Straka’s goal at 13:51

The second period saw some back-and-forth play with shots 8-5 in favour of Baie-Comeau. The only goal came on off the stick of Noreau on the power play at 19:20 to give the Baie-Comeau some momentum at the end of the middle frame.

The third saw the Sea Dogs turn some of the momentum back in their favour, coming out strong and bringing the game back into reach with his fifth of the year at 7:15. The goal was unassisted.

The Drakkar started pulling away at 10:38 with Boudreau scoring the goal to make the score 4-2.

Baie-Comeau finished the game with two power play goals in 18 seconds to make the final 6-2. Gelinas scored at 18:39 and Straka’s second of the game came at 18:57.

The Sea Dogs return home for Pink-in-the-Rink night against the Prince Edward Island Rocket Friday, Oct. 26. The auction has given way to a raffle for this year’s fundraiser. Game time is the usual 7:30 PM start.
